Eastern Cape police said they have arrested a Willowvale midnight burglar who strangled to death an elderly woman and her two grandchildren before setting them alight on Tuesday.
The man went further to kidnap and rape the family’s domestic worker. The incident happened in Nqadu village some 5km from amaXhosa King Zwelonke Mpendulo Sigcawu’s Great Palace.
Police spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said the 27-year-old suspect was cornered by detectives in the neighbouring village of Ntlabane.
“He will appear in the Willowvale Magistrate’s Court on Monday where he will face three counts of murder, another count of arson and that of rape,” Manatha said. The arrest comes hot on the heels of Premier Phumulo Masualle’s call for police to do everything in their power to bring the perpetrator to book.
